Zen & the Arts - Field Notes

Sacha Kawaichi

Sacha has taken photos all of her adult life. She takes photos now at St. Vincent de Paul. Clients there get a beautiful photo of themselves.

In 2016, a painting on a book cover captivated her.  It was almost a twin to one stolen by Nazis from her family. Sacha knew nothing about this when the painting stared into her.

And so she started painting. It was not a choice. It was a demand.

Sacha says: ‘I paint a lot. I paint for survival and joy.  It’s intense and alive. I have no idea where each painting is going and if I think I know, it never arrives. I paint what I need to see.’
