Zen & the Arts - Field Notes

Chris Gaffney

I first encountered Zen many years ago in the fall, when a gust of wind skittered a flock of dry leaves over my shoes and out into a field. For several hours I couldn’t remember how to have a problem. I pursued real magic by obtaining a PhD in Physics, simultaneously hoping to see things as they really are. Started sitting meditation about 20 years ago, encountered Pacific Zen Institute in 2002 and recognized a home. Current threads of interest include the relationship of knowing to not knowing, metaphors, and the wild – both outside and inside.
